Full Circle: A Short Story

Here’s a short story I wrote. Hope you enjoy!

It was a dark, stormy night. The wind howled, and buckets of rain poured down from the sky. Not a single person was to be seen, but deep in the forest, a cloaked figure trudged through the mud. The figure came to a stop, and removed the cloak, revealing a girl. She was a sorry sight, and her face was pale and frightened. She looked like she hadn’t eaten in days, and was so thin that she might vanish into thin air. Suddenly, a lantern turned on, and a man’s voice rang through the air. The girl scrambled away, but her cloak caught on a branch and she fell. “Over there!” the man yelled, discovering the girl. She flinched, waiting to be caught, but instead, he walked up to her and offered her his hand. The girl didn’t take it at first. “For goodness sake, take it already!” he said. “I’m from the palace. Come with me. I can help you.” The girl shivered and got up. “You look like you’ve seen better days. Where are you from?” She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, an evil screech rang out, followed by a bloodcurdling scream. “We need to get out of here!” she screamed, terrified. “No time to explain. Let’s just say that the evil has come back, full circle!” she added as they ran.
